LUKUSUZI RIVER
Fine Zambian Minerals and Gemstones
LUKUSUZIRIVER was founded in 2013 as a private initiative to support local Zambian artisanal miners. Our Zambian partners participate in the profit and the working and living conditions of the miners are being improved.
Our gemstones and mineral specimens are accompanied by knowledge of its origin and the history of the stone. They are not stained with blood but with lots of sweat and it is guaranteed that the miner received a fair price.

Leo Klemm, born in Zurich, Switzerland, made his biggest hobby his profession. As a passionate mineral collector, he searched for beautiful crystals and rare minerals in the Swiss Alps and in quarries. As a consequence, he studied mineralogy and geology at the University of Basel and at ETH Zurich focusing on ore deposits and microanalysis. Subsequently, he worked for a large mining company on a huge iron ore project in West Africa. Because geological field work almost exclusively takes place in remote areas far away from family and friends, he returned home to work for a renowned gemological laboratory in Switzerland developing origin determination of gemstones by trace element analysis. Currently he is investigating damage to concrete buildings as a technical consultant and with Lukusuzi River he found a way back to the world of beautiful minerals and gemstones in his beloved Africa.
